Last Saturday 6th March, a group of 50 SPB volunteers took part in an environmental volunteering event in the area of Alpuente and La Yesa, in the interior of the province of Valencia. A group of SPB colleagues and family members came to plant 600 trees and make the SPB Forest a reality. A forest with a total of 2,000 trees, 1,600 pinus halapensis and 400 holm oaks.
This initiative is part of SPB's Corporate Social Responsibility actions aimed at offsetting its carbon footprint. It is estimated that during its entire life a pinus halepensis absorbs 277 kg of CO2 while a Quercus Ilex absorbs 400 kg of CO2. In other words, calculating the 2,000 trees in the SPB Forest, this plantation has managed to offset 603,200 kg of CO2 or, in other words, the CO2 emissions of 600 cars that refuel 50 litres/month for a year.
For this initiative, we have counted on the collaboration of the VerdA association. It is planned that during the months of January another voluntary work will be carried out in which the trees will be watered to ensure their survival in the hot months.
The SPB CSR Committee would like to thank all the volunteers for their assistance and commitment.
